Tokyo marketing firm Hime & Company is getting press for a very generous company policy: Employees are allowed paid time off to get through a breakup.
When you think about it, it makes sense. If you come to work after a bad breakup, chances are you're in a foul mood from not eating, you're gonna take bathroom cry-breaks at least twice a day, and you're going to be spending more time reading old emails from your ex (or plotting revenge) than you are actually working. Besides, we all know a fair amount of sick days are really "heartbreak leave" in disguise.
And if that wasn't enough to make you think CEO Miki Hiradate is totally boss, apparently she also gives staff paid time off to go shopping during sale season!

When I broke up with my ex I called in sick the next day. How can you be at work when you're that miserable? This is so cool, too bad my company doesn't offer it :(
I wish I had taken time off throughout my divorce; my work spiralled into the toilet when all I could think about was how to figuratively murder him instead of...work.

What a cool boss she is! I def took a sick day or two when I broke up with exes.And it's not like you're abusing it either cuz' you ARE physically ill from all the body-wracking sobs, headaches because of all of those tears, and the inaibility to eat cuz you just feel sick to your stomach. I think NYC companies should look into that.;)
i think it's a wonderful idea and i have def taken time off when i broke up with an ex or two. we are human, and when hurt we need time to heal.
